Student Docent Program

If you love art, and would like to share your passion with others, consider becoming a student docent. In this program, you will learn how to provide general tours to the public and your peers as well as guided tours and workshops as part of the OMNI K-12 program. “Objects and their Makers: New Insights” is a social studies– and art curriculum–based program organized in collaboration with area schools and Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga BOCES. OMNI provides unique opportunities for students to learn about communities around the world by studying the Museum’s collections, exploring a classroom study case, and participating in hands-on activities and workshops.

To successfully complete the program you will be required to give eight (8) OMNI programs during the academic year (2014–15), to record one (1) “Collections Spotlight” video for the Museum’s series “ArtBeat,” and provide two (2) general tours during the academic year.

Download the PDF application for the Student Docent Program here. The deadline for 2014–15 applicants is Sunday, September 14, 2014. Training will take place on Thursdays for five weeks: September 18, 25, October 2, 9, 16 from 4:45-6:00 p.m. Attendance at all training sessions is mandatory. Contact Kari O'Mara at 607 254-4657 with any questions about the program.

To be a part of this program, you must be available from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Tuesday or Thursday in the Fall 2014 and/or Spring 2015 semester to fulfill the eight OMNI session requirements.

Student Advisory Committee

The Student Advisory Committee helps the Museum by contributing their ideas about how we can be an even more vital resource for students. Students from any academic department can serve on the committee. Contact Kari O'Mara at 607 254-4657 if you are interested in joining the committee.
