Responding to a pamphlet by Brother Roger of Taizé entitled The Introduction to Community Life, Brother Daniel de Montmollin was one of the first men to join him in his small ecumenical community near Cluny. Responding to a pamphlet by Brother Roger of Taizé entitled The Introduction to Community Life, Brother Daniel de Montmollin was one of the first men to join him in his small ecumenical community near Cluny. Although he had studied theology, soon after his arrival de Montmollin came into contact with a potter making simple kitchenware in the traditional style. He learned the basics of the potter’s craft from him, then went on to become an -artist-potter. Working in stoneware, following the lines laid down in Bernard Leach’s The Potter’s Book, his work is characterized by their experimental glazes. He has done much research into the role of plant ashes and their chemical equivalents in the production of stoneware glazes. His book, Le Secret Partage (The Secret Shared), was published in France in 1990.
