WORKSHOP FOR CHILDREN

Spring Break Special: Explore Media!
Monday, April 14–Friday, April 18
9:00 a.m.–12:00 noon (for ages 6-8);
1:00–4:00 p.m. (for ages 9-10)

Inspired by the Museum’s collections, explore a variety of media and techniques in these engaging workshops for children.

FEES: $95 for Members/$105 for nonmembers. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration and payment are required by April 7. Please call 607 255-6464.

Art for Lunch

Andy Weislogel, assistant curator and master teacher, will give an inside look at the pre-Columbian works in the exhibition A New World.

Lecture
Pre-Inca Andean Art

5:15 p.m.
Dr. John F. Scott, professor emeritus, Art & Art History, University of Florida, will examine the two traditions of the Central and Northern Andes during pre-Columbian times: the naturalistic imagery of the coastal cultures from northern Peru to southern Colombia (often linked with Mesoamerica), and the geometric abstraction of the Andean highlands in conjunction with the exhibition A New World.

Join us for our annual spring event, with art activities, refreshments, egg hunts, and a very tall bunny. Free and fun for the whole family! A shuttle from Cornell’s “A” lot will run from 12:30 to 3:15 p.m.

For Students Only: Hidden Treasures Tour and Workshop
2:00–3:30 p.m.
Learn more about the art and history of puppets and see examples from the Museum's collection, then make a puppet of your own. No particular talents required!

Special Event: An Elegant Evening
7:00–10:00 p.m.
Experience the cultures of India, Indonesia, and Southeast Asia at this special evening devoted to the Hindu epic, the Ramayana. Special performances and authentic cuisines will complement the art on view. FEES: $30 for Members/$35 for nonmembers. Seating is limited. Reservations and payment are required by April 4. Izmir: A Meeting of Cultures

The Cornell Middle Eastern and Mediterranean Music Ensemble will perform at this free concert.

Ellen Avril, curator of Asian art, will lead a tour of the exhibition of works that tell the epic Ramayana story.

For Students Only: Fiesta!: A Celebration of Peruvian Culture
9:00 p.m.–1:30 a.m.
Come to the Museum for an evening that celebrates Peruvian arts—old and new! View pre-Columbian vessels and enjoy Peruvian performances, art activities, foods, and dance workshops. Hosted by the Association of Peruvians at Cornell and cohosted by the Museum Club. Funded in part by the SAFC, CUTonight, the Minority Finance Commission, ALANA, ISPB, SA, and GPSA. Sponsored in part by HILC, Ujamaa, LLC, Balch Hall, Akwe:kon, and the Romance Studies Department.

Our current exhibitions of pre-Columbian art and works inspired by the Ramayana tell the stories of ancient cultures. Explore narratives, stories, myths, and beliefs from around the world during this day of performances, art activities, tastes, and much more! Free and open to all. A shuttle from Cornell’s “A” lot will run from 12:45 to 4:30 p.m.

Student curators from the History of Art Majors’ Society will discuss their exhibition, Exquisite Corpus: Interacting with the Fragmented Body.

Art-full Family Saturday
10:00 a.m.–12:00 noon
Join Sue Young for bilingual songs and stories and then explore the Museum’s special exhibition of pre-Columbian art. The performance begins at 10:00 a.m. with artmaking to follow at 11:00 a.m. FEES: Free for Museum Members/$5 per family for nonmembers. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Special Event: 35th Anniversary and New Wing Groundbreaking
with a special live performance by the Burns Sisters!
1:00–3:00 p.m.
Celebrate the past, present, and future of the Johnson Museum at this special event, where we’ll honor the 35th anniversary of our original building, and break ground on our new underground wing. Refreshments, entertainment, and fun for the whole family! A shuttle from Cornell’s “A” lot will run from 12:30 to 3:15 p.m. Performances will take place outdoors (weather permitting), so visitors are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets.
